docker .env file errors ; Failed to parse dotenv file. Encountered an unexpected escape sequence at [password]

My docker installation is very new ; been running for ~4 months in Ubuntu 22 LTS without an issue.
I am on verion 23.11
I did a docker compose down / pull / up and to update my installation and it has failed to start.
Looking at the docker compose logs ; I'm having two problems. This is one.

note: I did obfuscate the password.

librenms | Waiting 60s for database to be ready...
librenms | Database ready!
librenms | Updating database schema...
librenms | The environment file is invalid!
librenms | **Failed to parse dotenv file. Encountered an unexpected escape sequence at [FaKe\!pasW0rd].**
librenms | [cont-init.d] 04-svc-main.sh: exited 1.
librenms | [cont-finish.d] executing container finish scripts...
librenms | [cont-finish.d] done.

What I have tried to fix this; editing the .env file.

• added 'single quotes' to the password
• add "double quotes" to the password
• add another backslash- i.e. - FaKe\\!pasW0rd (this results in errors immediatly in the librenms_db logs.

I'm at a loss. What would be my next best steps?

I updated my compose.yml to use librenms:23.11.0 and the problem is gone ; image loads without issue.

The solution / workaround : Bring up the container - use Docker exec IT and interact with the container. Use database command to change the database password.
Update the related env file that contains the db password and relaunch with the latest version of LibreNMS.
