Currently, no BIOS is bundled with the SwanStation core. However, OpenBIOS is fully compatible with SwanStation, making it a practical and user-friendly option to include by default.

Bundling OpenBIOS would simplify setup for users and ensure out-of-the-box compatibility without requiring external proprietary BIOS files. Also, OpenBIOS is designed to be a fully compatible replacement for the stock BIOS, making it generally region-free when used in emulators.

How to test OpenBIOS

• As noted on https://github.com/grumpycoders/pcsx-redux, the latest AppImage is available at https://distrib.app/pub/org/pcsx-redux/project/dev-linux-x64.
• Extract the Appimage: ./PCSX-Redux-HEAD-x86_64.AppImage --appimage-extract.
• Copy the openbios.bin file from the generated directory squashfs-root/usr/share/pcsx-redux/resources.
• Rename openbios.bin to scph5501.bin.
• Place scph5501.bin in your RetroArch System/BIOS directory.

Feature request

• Ship openbios.bin with SwanStation core so it is available by default.
• After downloading the core via Main Menu → Online Updater → Core Downloader → SwanStation, automatically copy openbios.bin to the RetroArch System/BIOS directory.
• Configure SwanStation to use openbios.bin as a fallback if none of the standard BIOS files (scph5500.bin, scph5501.bin, or scph5502.bin) are found in the System/BIOS directory.
