Need to start from scratch?

If we want both Javascript and performance in a true headless browser, we need to start from scratch.

I'm wondering if you can help me understand this claim -- What about the performance profiles and code in the existing browsers and browser engines makes starting from scratch the only viable option?

As opposed to optimizing and stripping out unneeded features from existing engines/browsers?

@philipbjorge all the Lightanda idea is to doing less than other browsers: no UI, no graphical rendering.
This is something pretty hard to do in existing browser, mainly b/c the rendering code is nested almost everywhere.

So it was easier to rebuild from scratch instead of trying to change a huge amount of code in browsers + being able to maintain these changes in the future.
