Building LuaJIT

The following versions of LuaJIT are available in the respective distribution at the time of creation of these build instructions:

• RHEL (8.4, 8.5, 8.6) has 2.1

The instructions provided below specify the steps to build LuaJIT version 2.1 on Linux on IBM Z for following distributions:

• SLES (12 SP5, 15 SP3)
• RHEL (7.8, 7.9)
• Ubuntu (18.04, 20.04, 21.10, 22.04)

General Notes:

• When following the steps below please use a standard permission user unless otherwise specified.
• A directory /<source_root>/ will be referred to in these instructions, this is a temporary writable directory anywhere you'd like to place it.

Step 1: Build and Install LuaJIT

1.1) Install dependencies

• SLES (12 SP5, 15 SP3)

  sudo zypper update
  sudo zypper install git gcc make

• RHEL (7.8, 7.9)

  sudo yum install gcc make git

• Ubuntu (18.04, 20.04, 21.10, 22.04)

  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get install git gcc make

1.2) Download LuaJIT

cd /<source_root>/
git clone git://github.com/linux-on-ibm-z/LuaJIT.git
cd LuaJIT
git checkout v2.1

1.3) Build and Install LuaJIT

cd /<source_root>/LuaJIT/
make
sudo make install
sudo ln -s luajit-2.1.0-beta3 /usr/local/bin/luajit
