Fingerprint Sensor Not Working Properly on DeepinOS – Registration Fails or Unlock Doesn't Work

I'm facing issues with the fingerprint sensor on my laptop after switching to DeepinOS. The sensor was working perfectly under Windows, but I'm encountering the following problems on Deepin:

Problem Description:
Fingerprint Registration Issues:
When I try to register my fingerprint via the "Easy Unlock" or fingerprint login settings, the scanning process keeps stopping midway. It often fails to detect the finger properly or times out. After several retries, it eventually registers the fingerprint, but the process is inconsistent and frustrating.

Unlock Not Working:
Once the fingerprint is registered, trying to unlock the system using it doesn't work. The system either doesn't detect the fingerprint at all or simply doesn't respond to the fingerprint scan. I end up having to enter my password manually every time.

Does it work on other linux distro? If so, which one?

i m not sure on how to get the model number for fingerprint sensor, but i m using Asus vivobook s14 oled from 2023, if this helps!!

You can try lsusb and see if there is Elan mentioned there. From what I can lookup that should be the vendor and providing the ID here would help.

So according to https://linux-hardware.org/?id=usb:04f3-0c6e it needs a proprietary driver. @BLumia may decide whether it's appropriate for Deepin to integrate it.

So that means it wont work unless DeepinOS decides to introduce a proprietary driver for it. Well i hope they release it fast.

I know that it is not supported, but isn't there anything the developers or maintainers of DeepinOS can do to make it work? Otherwise, I am afraid that after some time the fingerprint might just stop working altogether.

If a proprietary driver doesn't exist at the first place, then there is nothing that we can do :(

You can try but I'm not sure if they can actually provide you a linux driver (if so, that's a pretty good thing!)

If I understand it correctly, I don't think a proprietary driver ever exists for other distros as well. If fingerprint sensor is a must for your use-case, consider switching back to Windows might be a better idea. But anyway, your fingerprint sensor will simply not be working but won't break just because of the missing driver.

In general i m enjoying using deepin, great visuals and there was an option there to register fingerprint so i thought that if somehow the fingerprint sensor would have worked then there would be this ease of opening the system with just the finger rather than using the password. But yeah!! I m fine without it also and the system is working fine. So i ll just stick to it for the time being. And thank you all 🙂🙏🏻!!
