Heimdall: Tägliches Bing-Hintergrundbild via Portainer

Ziel

Heimdall lädt täglich automatisch das aktuelle Bing-Hintergrundbild und setzt es als Hintergrund – vollständig serverseitig im Container, kein Browser beteiligt.

Voraussetzungen

• Heimdall läuft als Docker-Container
• Verwaltung über Portainer
• SSH-Zugang zum Host-System
• Config-Volume liegt unter /pfad/zu/deinen/daten

Schritt 1: Init-Skript erstellen

Schritt 2: Berechtigungen setzen

Die Skripte müssen root gehören, sonst verweigert linuxserver.io die Ausführung:

chown root:root /pfad/zu/deinen/daten/custom-cont-init.d/bing-wallpaper.sh
chmod +x /pfad/zu/deinen/daten/custom-cont-init.d/bing-wallpaper.sh

Schritt 3: Container neu starten

docker restart heimdall

Schritt 4: Prüfen

docker logs heimdall 2>&1 | grep -i bing

Erwartete Ausgabe:

Bild vorhanden:

ls -la /pfad/zu/deinen/daten/www/storage/app/public/backgrounds/

Ergebnis

Bei jedem Container-Start wird das aktuelle Bing-Bild heruntergeladen und als Hintergrund gesetzt. Da der Dateiname bing.jpg immer gleich bleibt, ist nach einem Browser-Refresh das neue Bild sichtbar.

Troubleshooting

Heimdall: Daily Bing Wallpaper via Portainer

Goal

Heimdall automatically downloads the current Bing wallpaper daily and sets it as the background – entirely server-side inside the container, no browser involved.

Prerequisites

• Heimdall running as a Docker container
• Managed via Portainer
• SSH access to the host system
• Config volume located at /path/to/your/data

Step 1: Create the Init Script

Step 2: Set Permissions

Scripts must be owned by root, otherwise linuxserver.io will refuse to execute them:

chown root:root /path/to/your/data/custom-cont-init.d/bing-wallpaper.sh
chmod +x /path/to/your/data/custom-cont-init.d/bing-wallpaper.sh

Step 3: Restart the Container

docker restart heimdall

Step 4: Verify

Expected output:

Verify the image exists:

ls -la /path/to/your/data/www/storage/app/public/backgrounds/

Result

Every time the container starts, the current Bing image is downloaded and set as the background. Since the filename bing.jpg always stays the same, the new image is visible after a browser refresh.
