[BUG] Calibre News Feed fails to load links when using the scheduled updates.

Current Behavior

When various news feeds are activated, you can choose what days to schedule updates. However, for many feeds, the scheduled update fails to provide the required "section" or "title" links and you get an error message that the link is not found (see uploaded image).

If instead, you go to Fetch News, Select the same feed, and then choose to "Download Now" the feed works and the section links are there.

Expected Behavior

The scheduled news feeds should correctly update exactly the same way that "Download Now" works.

Steps To Reproduce

1. In Calibre running in a Docker container under unRAID, select the WebUI
2. In Fetch News, select some feeds (I was using English to find feeds), like Everett Herald or NASA and schedule them to run every day.
3. Wait a few days. Select some feeds to open them from a few days ago. The section links will be missing with the error message.
4. Go back to Fetch News, select one of those feeds and choose to "Download Now". The section links will be there.

our calibre container does not have an included web browser which is what the client tries to open to browse to the news urls. You could install one using the docker-mod, but it's not something we would bake in. I've been a calibre user since 2008 and I had no clue calibre even had news feeds. The intent behind this was ebook conversion and/or automated tasks against books.

in your log you can even see calibre try to open every browser it knows of, it's just not something we intend to have included by default.

Thanks for your explanation. What I am pointing out is if I MANUALLY update the feed, the links are there and they open correctly. It is when I configure the news feed to SCHEDULE the updates, the article is downloaded but the links no longer work.

You could try installing links, see what happens. If it fixes it, use the mod to permanently keep it. I've never used this feature (or heard of it until now) so I can't really speak to it. I think putting links on will resolve the issue though

I've never heard of links as an option. What do you mean by "install it"? Is this a calibre add on? And, why do links work is I manually tell Callinre to update a feed? What you are telling me doesn't make sense. Links is a text based web browser and one of the browser options from your logs that calibre checked for.

We have a universal docker mod that lets you install anything permanently but you can temporarily shell into the container and install it just for a quick test. My suggestion was to install links and see if it fixes the issue

Your error, specifically is because it's trying to launch a link with a browser and not finding one, installing links fixes that.

Again I'm purely going off your logs and fixing the error you showed. I have no other information to work with aside from what you provided.

I don't have an answer for you, again, i am going off of the logs you provided. We support the container, not the application within the container. If you need to know the details of how certain functions of calibre work, you would need to ask the devs of calibre.

there is no need for any guessing, the error in your logs tells you something, you're either willing to test or not, but barring that test, there is nothing else for us to offer.
