Future of Forge

Hi community,

I was wondering: Maybe Illyasviel himself - or the still active developers (are there any?) could share their plans for Forge WebUI with us.

If Illyasviel doesn't want or can, or whatever his reasons may be - which is totally fine - other people might start actively updating the repo. Maybe the reason this repo doesn't get actively updated is because everybody is waiting for Illyasviel?

Are there any geniuses besides Illyasviel who are able and willing to update Forge? I know I am not. ;))

reForge guy here. Continue the Illya legacy is quite a hard task! Haha, he for sure is a genius. I haven't managed to do so at least.

Den, catboxanon and everyone who has been developing the last months have done a lot to Forge.

I will try to contact him to see if he plans to continue Forge. Also just coming back a bit on here, I remembered I'm able to push some commits, but the codebase is really hard.

Will update if I get an answer!

Great to hear.
Why is there Forge and ReForge? What's the differrence?
Should we all switch to ReForge and maintain just one repo, instead of two?

Forge has support for newer models like flux and such, so I think Forge users will want to keep using it instead of reForge. reForge support other features but is quite limited to SDXL and before only.

reForge was done on July 2024 after Forge had no updates for about 6 months, but at the same time Illya came back (July-Aug 2024) and then did a complete rework for Forge which was and is amazing.

So that's why I asked him about Forge as he could come back again, but no answer yet.

I wonder if we'll ever see ControlNet compatibility with Flux. Recently, I tried using ComfyUI but quickly ran back to Forge — in my opinion, it's a far superior tool in terms of ease of use and speed. Besides ControlNet support, I'd also love to see integration with models like WAN and HiDream arrive one day. I wish I had the skills to contribute and help out.

Yeah, this is an amazing extension, there's this amazing one too: https://github.com/AcademiaSD/sd-forge-fluxtools-v2 from AcademiaSD, but you can't use it alongside a Standard Flux model and Loras made for Flux Dev or Scnnnel simply don't work, at least not on my tests.

I want to leave my thanks to all the people working on this amazing project called Forge, including @lllyasviel that I hope will come back to us one day and @DenOfEquity & AcademiaSD for the amazing extensions they make.
