[mlir][linalg] Extend DecomposeOuterUnitDimsPackOpPattern (linalg.pack) #162666
Conversation
Similarly to llvm#152960, this PR fixes `getTiledOuterDims` for `linalg.pack` by ensuring that the `outer_dims_perm` attributeis properly taken into account. This enables the main change in this PR: relaxing the constraints in * `DecomposeOuterUnitDimsPackOpPattern`. Specifically, the pattern is extended to allow non-unit untiled outer dimensions. This makes it consistent with the corresponding pattern for `linalg.unpack`: * `DecomposeOuterUnitDimsUnPackOpPattern`. One notable assumption remains: untiled outer dimensions are not permuted. This was already the case but is now explicitly documented.

I think this looks good, but the assumption about the permutation concerns me. I wrote my idea for a check which I hope should work. Can you please add that?

So the pattern crashes at the moment when this happens? I am a bit afraid that this can cause hard to debug errors.
Wouldn't it be sufficient if you check that outer_dims_perm
excluding the dimensions present in inner_dims_pos
are monotonically growing?

Similarly to #152960, this PR fixes
getTiledOuterDims
forlinalg.pack
byensuring that the
outer_dims_perm
attributeis properly taken into account. This enables the main change in this PR: relaxing the constraints in
DecomposeOuterUnitDimsPackOpPattern
.Specifically, the pattern is extended to allow non-unit untiled outer
dimensions. For example:
decomposes as:
Importantly, this change makes
DecomposeOuterUnitDimsPackOpPattern
(thedecomposition pattern for
linalg.pack
) consistent with the correspondingpattern for
linalg.unpack
:DecomposeOuterUnitDimsUnPackOpPattern
.One notable assumption remains: untiled outer dimensions are not permuted. This
was already the case but is now explicitly documented.
