"nobarf" or not "nobarf"

Is there a qualitative or only a quantitative difference between running "garbo nobarf" follow by "garbo" vs. running "normally" (i.e. straight to "garbo" without flags)? E.g. to check / log the value of the "no barf" part of garbo even if I want to run the full barfday?
