Enhancement: provide prebuilt binaries for linux-riscv64

Any chance to get RiscV64 build? I am looking to build sharp for RiscV64 and the lack of riscv64 support in sharp-libvips is blocking me.

Please can you explain your comment about "skia-canvas" as I don't understand its relevance to this repo.

I don't see anything in this comment about skia or canvas, could their mention in your first comment have been a mistake?

To use sharp on platforms where prebuilt binaries are not provided, you'll need to ensure a globally-installed libvips is made available, and in this case you'll probably need to compile from source.

Oh, yes sorry it was mistake. I am evaluating both skia-canvas and sharp on RiscV64 and typed the wrong one. I'll play with the libvips and will see if my issue with the sharp build will go away. Thank you for your prompt replies!

@lovell just to let you know that building libvips in the riscv machine did the job. Now I have sharp running beautifully with nodejs on RiscV64

Cam you elaborate on what you did and how you may have installed sharp with the locally build libvips? I tried doing the same thing, and while I was able to build libvips, I am still running into issues installing/building sharp itself.

I took a quick look at this, and there's now a work-in-progress riscv branch. See commit cb88ece and the associated CI job.

I don't (yet) have any RISC-V hardware so a couple of assumptions have been made here; happy to have these corrected if wrong:

• The flavour of glibc-based Linux with the best support for RISC-V cross-compilation appears to be Debian 13, so the prebuilt binaries it produces will depend on a very recent minimum glibc version of 2.41 (e.g. Ubuntu 25.04 plucky/rolling).
• This uses the same -march=rv64gc compiler flag as the prebuilt packages provided by Debian, which assumes the CPU provides "General-purpose computing base extension" and "Compressed extension" - see https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/RISC-V-Options.html

Commit 2eeca2d adds experimental support for linux-riscv64 and will be part of the next release candidate, for which I may need to call on people for help testing over the next few days.

Running (a subset of) the sharp unit tests segfaults under QEMU emulation of RISC-V. Given where the failure occurs I think it might relate to JPEG encoding but I'll need to investigate.

In addition, the most recent version of Node.js known to support RISC-V seems to be 20.16.0 from July last year. Node.js 22 and 24 do not appear to compile/work on RISC-V.

I'm probably going to stop here and will re-visit RISC-V support at some point in the future as it all feels a little bit too fragile at the moment.
