I can't get steam to run TES III Morrowind with this or any other Proton tool including GE only openMW runs the game

I told Steam to use this with wine to run Morrowind with the openWM tool, with openWM pointed to the Steam install, but the game won't run. I get an error about my GPU not supporting it. This is a false error, as openMW can run it. Perhaps Steam is misconfigured? I am using the Intel integrated GMA 4500 HD. My distro is Kubuntu 25.04

Not sure what you mean here. Are you using luxtorpeda as the compatibility tool instead of wine, or are you trying to use wine with your own copy of openmw?

The game works fine outside of Steam.

That's not what I'm referring to. There's a GUI that luxtorpeda launches before you launch the game. That is what isn't working.

Im already using compatibility mode on godot. The vulkan mode seems to partially work, because that gray box is supposed to have the UI where you can pick between a few options.

Can you try running with gdb? One of the ways you can do that if editing the luxtorpeda.sh file to start it with gdb with an ip, and use remote gdb to connect to it. This should be able to get a backtrace that may give more information.

I was just looking at the README in the luxtorpeda directory and noticed I was missing some dependencies, like Godot. The following command results in package not found: sudo apt install cargo libssl-dev godot. As I said above, I am using Kubuntu 25.04, which uses/KDE/Plasma. Maybe it only works in Ubuntu, which is Gnome.

No that does not have anything to do with it. The godot runtime is included as well as rust, those packages are only needed if you are trying to develop. Are you able to do the gdb part I mentioned above?
