As far as I can tell, when cppauto is set the instruction set is chosen:

but it doesn't seem to get reported in the logfiles anywhere? At least, I don't seem to find it in our logs. I think it's quite important for debugging purposes (and just general user information) to see what level is chosen in some clear message, at least once in the logs. That can also help us in case we are 'accidentally' running cppnone.
