That would be cool, then I could add some skins. Designs inspired by famous retro synthies would be cool :)

And one could have a drum machine layout instead of keys or something, right?

Potentially yes, it's should be possible to have completely custom controls, though it will likely be a while yet before I have a chance to work on this feature.
