Description
Hi! I’m Ana Ferreira, a Master's student in Computer Science.
As part of my research on mobile accessibility, I am analyzing open-source Android applications to help identify and correct accessibility barriers so users can utilize assistive technologies more effectively.
I’ve been exploring Food You and noticed some readability and interaction issues on the Daily Summary / Home Screen, so I wanted to propose a fix.
1. The Issue
On the Home Screen (Daily View), the small macronutrient indicators (letters P, C, F) displayed under the meal names (e.g., Breakfast) present the following behavior:
- Current behavior: The text color (blue/purple) has insufficient contrast against the card background. The contrast ratio is likely below the minimum required (4.5:1), making these indicators very difficult to read for users with low vision.
- Impact: Users may struggle to identify which value corresponds to Protein, Carbs, or Fat without straining their eyes.
2. Proposed Solution
To fix this, I suggest adjusting the color resources to a darker shade that meets WCAG AA standards.
Code snippet / XML suggestion:
<TextView
...
android:textColor="@color/darker_macro_text" />3. Additional fixes (Need your input)
I have identified 3 other accessibility improvements on this screen.
To avoid spamming your notification feed, how would you prefer I submit these?
- Option A: List them all here in this issue (I can update the comment below).
- Option B: Open separate issues for each specific problem.
I can provide detailed fixes for these upon request.
Please let me know your preference, and I will proceed accordingly.
Best regards,
