I've been using Sphinx for text search since 2007. In 2017, when the project was stale for 2 years, I've learned about manticore search and switched to it. it has served us very well - being one of those drama-free technologies that does not require constant care and feeding. it gives me a solid text search service for ever increasing number of documents [ starting from few millions, now at over 300M ], search and indexing performance is great.
