This is something that we have taken in to account in our case study collection, but it seems very common that mappings are distributed without a clear answer to the question "Why this mapping was created?".
The answer can be constructed by combining information from source and target schema, mapping type (schema mapping / mapping set), description and context, but maybe a specifically named property could help the user. Or maybe this can be always generated i.e. "This mapping was created to transform data confirming to schema X to another piece of data confirming to schema Y."
