We agreed to try to do something about these issues next week. We suggested two changes that we're trying for next week:
107107

108-
- Limiting the Doing-column (Sedang in Indonesian) to 14 items. It's a lot I know but as you'll see in my summary below I'm not in a hurry.

Also I wanted to try a technique that [Donald Reintersen](http://reinertsenassociates.com/) introduced me too (also described [in the book btw](http://bit.ly/theKanbanBook)). Each week we will lower this limit with 20% until it hurts. Then we start our discussions about how to improve from there. Right now it's not hurting at all...

- We decided to classify all the items in Todo (Akan) in S, M, L and (XL). That's is if something is XL we break it down. Nothing should take longer than 2 weeks, that's our idea now at least.

Let's me redeem my bad Mongoose-conscience and write a ~~short~~ post on what I've picked up when trying it... [for real](http://github.com/aptitud/AptiTalk).

The thing that ticked me off and actually made me turn away from Mongoose on the idea-stadium was the fact that it needs a typed model. To me, at the time, this seemed to go against the whole idea of simplicity and dynamicallity (yeah, made that word up... but I mean focus on dynamic stuff; I can store object that doesn't have exactly the same properties in the same collection for example) that can be seen through [Mongo](http://www.mongodb.org/) and [Monk](https://github.com/LearnBoost/monk) for example.

### ORM or Data Access framework?

Ok, so why did I diss this awesome framework the first time around? Because I didn't even think about an ORM, I just wanted data access. For a number of years I've just used very [simple tools](https://github.com/markrendle/Simple.Data) and shied away from the complex as much as I could. When I saw that I needed to create a model, and that Mongoose hid all things Mongo from me... I was a bit hesitant.

Now, when I've used the tool I feel much better. It's worth the "toll" I pay by creating models etc, I think. The API that Mongoose exposes is very nice and powerful and I have yet been near running into a situation that I cannot handle.

In short - I should have looked harder and longer. ORM can be lightweight too, apparently. Thank you Mongoose for showing me that.

We also added a new criteria for putting items in the Todo-column: They need a "definition of done" so we know what we're supposed to do with them. Preferably, we can answer "When this is done we have ...".

Some items are such in nature that we don't know the definition of done when we start (investigations for example). We agreed to put timeboxes for them instead. One example was the timebox we put in place to find a simple way to do reporting.

If you read my [previous article](https://www.marcusoft.net/2014/03/for-indonesian-war-cry-on-motivation.html) you remember that I think that we should be the best we can be for Him. Doing the MOST good. That both means that we want to optimize the value of our actions but also do less of the things that aren't valuable.
