Combine features from reactive MPL axes and interactive MPL figures

There are a couple of different Matplotlib integrations in Marimo plotting, but features from one of them are not available in the other. It would be nice to get both the scatter plot selection from reactive MPL axes and the coordinate hover text from interactive MPL figures for the same MPL object. It might already be in the pipeline given that reactive axes are a new addition, but wanted to ask if anyone was thinking about it.

Thanks for the suggestion! To clarify,mo.mpl.interactive is a wrapper around matplotlib's built-in WebAgg backend, while mo.ui.matplotlib is our newer custom integration for reactive selections. They work quite differently under the hood, so combining them isn't straightforward.

Could you share more specifically which features from each you're looking to combine (hover text + selection, others?)? That would help us think about what to prioritize.

Have been able to mimic the equivalent of rectangular selection in mo.ui.matplotlib using the zoom button on mo.mpl.interactive (and some get_lim calls) and have used mpl.axes.Axes.format_coord to update the hover text on the bottom bar. It's also easier to compose several axes into a complete figure using mo.mpl.interactive.
The really neat thing missing from mo.mpl.interactive is the lasso selection. If there was a way of embedding the axes object returned by mo.ui.matplotlib into a larger figure with the usual interactivity, that would be the best.
