Doesn't install/run on Chrome 141

Great Idea an dI would love some analytics in my community group.

However, it does nothing on Chrome 141 on Windows 11. Steps to reproduce:

1. Download code zip and expand to a folder.
2. Open Chrome, add the app folder.
3. Open WhatsApp and scroll back a few months (some hundreds of chats, dozens of users).
4. Open dashboard.html in Chrome.

I gather from the very short description in Github, this is how it's done.

What I get is "Error Loading Data" or "Open WhatsApp Web for Best Results"...

I have tried to reload, update Chrome, other browser, restart the WhatsApp web, restart dashbaord.html.

It is clear the plugin loads and its clear the tab with the plugin cannot see the tab with WhatsApp Web. Chat/Group pull down just has a black one line, instead of choosing chats or anything meaningful.

In order to load the Chrome extension you have to go to chrome://extensions and then choose "load unpacked" and select the unzipped folder.

Dashboard.html isn't meant to be opened on its own. It only works as a Chrome extension.

The included index.html is a watered down version of the app which will take exported chats in text format. Most people will not use this... I hope that helps!

Sorry, I sound like an idiot, but I am in in IT for over 30 years now and my native language is English.

Let me help you - the extension does not load unless developer mode is active on Chrome. Now at least, I can access a button in the toolbar. It says now "Data Loaded". Nice. Sounds positive. But the pull down menu still shows nothing, just a black box where I assume some list must exist.

If I click Load Older Messages in attempt to get anything, I get a new message "Backfill error: Could not establish connection. Receiving end does not exist."

Chrome 141, Windows 11 24H2.

I'm having a similar issue on Chromium version 141.0.7390.76 (Official Build) Arch Linux (64-bit).

The dashboard shows up but nothing really works except when clicking on Load older messages I get Backfill error: Could not establish connection. Receiving end does not exist. error.

the extension doesn't report any error.

I'll try to investigate this a bit and see if I can figure what the issue is.

I suspect the DOM* has been changed on WhatsApp. I wasn't expecting for this to occur so quickly. I'll have to dig deeper to figure out what's going on.

*WhatsApp uses various encapsulation techniques to obfuscate this to discourage scraping

Its unfortuante, becasue that is what is missing from WahtsApp; any kind of tools to manage the groups, however, I feel like Meta is protecting Facebook, chat or messenger or whatever its called. WhatsApp Business also seems to be missing much needed tools.

Thanks for giving it a go. I hope it works in the future, but I feel like Meta will actively prevent tools being developed.
