The launcher keeps loading

Hi there,

Each time I come back to the home screen, the launcher seems to be restarting. The placeholder "loading..." appears and I can not use it during a few seconds.

This behaviour happened a few weeks ago but I'm not sure about the app version. I'm gonna download and install previous versions to see if anything changed.

Is it a known bug ?

Hi, thanks a lot for reporting this behavior! No, it's not a known bug, and I haven't experienced this on any of my devices, nor have I heard of this yet. Definitely very strange!

Does it really happenevery time you return to the home screen (by using the home or back gesture or do you use the traditional three button navigation?) or just after using memory intense apps (like games or watching movies)?

May I ask what device you're using? And what Android version?

Do you use any "app cleaners" or anything like that? Because the only time the launcher shows "loading" is when it's started anew, and then it needs to index all the apps. So whenever you see "loading" it means that the app process of the launcher was restarted, and therefore probably killed before. Usually, Android kills apps when it's out of memory, but some manufacturers use a very aggressive battery management (for all the wrong reasons).

Please check that Pie Launcher has (still) the permission to run without being "battery optimized". You can do that by entering the settings in Pie Launcher. If that permission is missing, there should be a corresponding option at the very top of the app settings.

No it doesn't happen every time but I would say very often.

My phone is a Fairphone 4 with android 15.
I don't use any cleaning app.

I downgraded the app to a 6 months old version and I still have the issue. However, I didn't have the issue back then... So I suspect something related to my phone but I can't find steps to reproduce yet.

I happen to have this exact phone in my test range! But unfortunately I can't observe that there. Hmm, I will check if I can reproduce this somehow…

For me this happens from time to time. Sometimes it's just stuck in that loading stage for a few seconds. I just shrugged it of to my Pixel 4a being slow and android 13 being old. I am not surprised by things being laggy. Just thought I'd mention it in case it was relevant.
