MAC address changing doesn't work

So I'm using an esp8266. I did change the mac address using the correct commands and I also did use a unicast mac address, saved the config and rebooted the repeater, but my router won't show me any changes in the mac address and said mac address always stays the same. if i call "show" in the console it does show me the mac addresses i changed it to. i only want to change the STA mac address but i did change both the STA and softAP and still not any changes. the repeater still does its job its just that i can not change the mac address.

Check the first byte of your MAC - You mentioned using a unicast address, which is correct (LSB of first byte = 0). But also make sure the locally-administered bit (second LSB of first byte) is set to 1, e.g. 0x02:...
