Description
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Currently, the system does not support scanning or decoding PDF417 barcodes, which are widely used in government-issued IDs such as US and Canadian driver’s licenses. This limits our ability to extract structured data from such documents in applications like identity verification, check-in systems, and POS integrations.
Describe the solution you'd like
I would like the SDK/system to support PDF417 barcode scanning and decoding. Ideally, the integration should work across platforms (e.g., web, mobile) and support real-time scanning via camera.
Describe alternatives you've considered
- Using third-party paid SDKs such as Dynamsoft or Scandit, but these add licensing costs.
- Implementing a custom decoder using open-source libraries like pdf417-decoder or Zxing, but these may lack performance optimizations and consistent mobile compatibility.
Additional context
- PDF417 is a stacked linear barcode format with high data capacity.
It is a mandatory element on many North American driver's licenses per AAMVA standards.
Real-time support would be ideal for kiosk and mobile scenarios.
Example libraries that already support PDF417 include:
- zxing-js/library
- pdf417-decoder
- Native support in iOS/Android camera APIs
