The window list icons don't scale

I am in Void Linux.

I managed to change the button size with css (I also removed the labels in there), but the icons are still at the same size.

What version of mate-panel and what version of libwnck? The icons are provided by libwnck, which creates the window list itself. All the panel does is give libwnck a place to put the window list tell it whether to group icons by app and whether to show all open windows or just those on the current workspace.

mate-panel i tried the void linux version (1.28.7) and i compiled today the latest version and tried it out, same issue. libwnck is 43.2

What exactly are the icons doing? On changing panel height icons don't scale, they just move up to the next icon size as the panel height/width passes the dimensions to fit them while making it taller/wider and the inverse when shrinking it. To get the icons to change their size on changing the window scaling might require restarting the panel with mate-panel --replace It does for sure in the wayland session (different backend) not sure if libwnck has this same issue

Like, when i increase the panel size, the icons don't get bigger, i am in x11. Maybe it is because i made the buttons larger with css?

I don't know if trying to change icon size with CSS is even supposed to work. They normally follow the panel size, in steps to match the icon size (which is NOT scaled beyond the various PNG icon sizes and hidpi window scaling).

Its size remains the same when i make the panel size bigger. I modified the button itself to be higher (with css), but i think that the icon (image) size doesn't like, update?

If you change the panel height from the panel prefs dialog from the minimum (17px or so) to a large value like 50+ the icons should change size in a few steps. Are you saying they stay the same size when you do this? If so that's a bug and one I've never seen and cannot duplicate (the hard kind..)

I have no idea what this is really doing. The panel is doing what it is intended to do if they resize when changing the panel size from the panel-prefs dialog. I cannot provide research and support for this myself due time limitations, but if you want to keep working with it your results and any PR's stemming from it are welcome here.

Also note that the window list in a wide enough vertical panel does work but may be incompletely baked so far as being able to resize labels and icons by height. The original code is so old it predates widespread use of widescreen monitors.

No, doesn't modify the icons of the windows.
I tried this:

#tasklist-button image {
  -gtk-icon-transform: scale(5.0);
  padding-top: 50px;
  padding-bottom: 50px;
  padding-left: 48px;
}

And seems to work good, the only issue left is that it becomes blurry.
