There is already a Go logo for .go files, which seems good: https://github.com/material-extensions/vscode-material-icon-theme/blob/main/icons/go.svg

For other languages folder with a logo on bottom right is done, so it should be pretty much the same thing for Go folder as well

Additional context

The usecases of using such a folder is when there are multiple language SDKs in a one repo, and Go is the only language I've come across in this theme for which there is no a folder icon.

My proposal is doing 2 names for folder: go and golang, as there are 2 conventions being used. I can't think of cases when folder with name "go" can be used in non-Go projects, so it should be ok

Yeah, something like this!
The only thing is that those stripes on the left of the original Go logo can be unseen on most of the screens as I think, and it seems that's why for Go files a non-official logo is being used in this theme (https://github.com/material-extensions/vscode-material-icon-theme/blob/main/icons/go.svg). So for consistency it is better to use the same logo as for files

after comparing other languages, it seems the 3 lines (go's rapid fast indicator) are not that much of significance than the GO alphabets themselves.
Moreover unable to clearly show the G and O letters while using the existing GO file icon as the size of the 3 lines seems huge in the 16x16 tiny icon.

Hence changed the lines from 1 pixel height to 0.5 pixel and adjusted with the alphabet G. Unable to decide whether to put the motive close to the darker folder background (case 1); or go further down 1 pixel (case-2) to fill the gap space more.

Please let know which one can be chose or any more improvements can be done.

Thanks for putting these together - I really like variant 1!
The only thing I'd tweak is color scheme: could we make it a bit more Go-like? (closer to the Go cyan)

I like the contrast of this variant, but it doesn't use the official Go colors. Can you please do a variant of using Light Blue #5DC9E2 for logo and Gopher Blue #00ADD8 for folder please?

The two colors #5DC9E2 and #00ADD8 are very close to each other, hence becoming somewhat indistinguishable the two.

My preferred choice would be, darker color in the background folder and some middle (not so light) color for the foreground motive.

I actually love your first variant, as it has really close colors to Go's design and the overall coloring of cyan and blue looks great for me - except I don't know how good it will look in a light theme

Let's stick with the gopher (#00ADD8 or material #00B8D4) color for the folder now, and some lighter sky blue (#84FFFF) color on the same variant for the motive.
As it is not recommended to use original color from brand and we can only use material design colors, either we need to go with this color pair, or we need to use green aqua (#00A29C or #26A69A ) variant, which i don't prefer so much; else we need to use more blueish (#0091EA) color for the folder.

IMO the variant where the Go logo isn't aligned with the bottom of the folder (the second variant) works great, as it remains identifiable in a small resolution. The first coloring is the most gopherish (and that's what I like), but it might be hard to identify it on a light theme with a small resolution. So I think we should go with the second one - the one with a blue folder, it has a great contrast

Ahh I actually meant the one below, it isn't aligned with the bottom of the folder and on small resolution previews it remains identifiable. Also the logo position looks great, all of the other language folders in this theme preserves this pattern
