[feature request] create new users for easy bridging with Matterbridge

It would be nice if this could create new users on the fly based on user name and avatar url provided in a webhook.

This way it would be relatively easy to simulate real matrix users with Matterbridge, similar to how it works with Slack etc.

Adding appservice support directly to Matterbridge is sadly unrealistic right now, so this would be the next best option.

I think this would be a relatively easy change to the API for JS transformations. There wouldn't be any membership management however, so any users that leave the mattermost channel would not be left from the Matrix room.

Alternatively matrix-org/matrix-spec-proposals#4144 could be used, if any clients implemented it.

Gomuks does, and i've made use of that MSC with it. Issue is, to all clients that don't... it's a mess.

I'd be keen on the MSC for this feature simply as it does sidestep the problem with membership and constrains webhooks to a single user. However, the MSC currently falls apart as the fallback for unsupported clients is pretty poor so I think it would need something to keep the experience acceptable for everyone.

Couldn't this appservice clean up its users from time to time that haven't had a webhook interaction in some time?

Ah apologies, too many things to bridge in my head.

It could do the cleanup but it does add a bit more overhead to hookshot than I am confortable with, so the proposal would be less effort for us.

There is now a new and more actively maintained version of Matterbridge, so this feature would be greatly appreciated for implementing improved bridging.
