I note that view.matrix.org was killed in the last month. In addition, guest accounts are seemingly going away? (at least on Gitter, enabling them does not allow me to view a room when unauthenticated)

What is the plan for viewing rooms publicly on Matrix? I admit I feel a bit disquieted about Gitter messages seemingly not being visible unauthenticated without me setting up an instance of this or matrix-static or something...

I would be happy to throw together a PR if there's anything I can do to help. I imagine I can't given this sounds like a social problem :-)

Hello, (original project author and former Gitter crypt-keeper here)

I'm guessing gitter.im was migrated to use Matrix Authentication Service (MAS) which isn't compatible with guests so that's why it doesn't work anymore (ugh).

Totally agree about the suckiness on not having an option to view rooms unauthenticated anymore.

I think your view of the world is accurate in terms of this being more of a social problem and not something you can solve directly.

My one technical concern with this project's future is Hydrogen development going a bit stagnant. We originally used Hydrogen because "Re-using Hydrogen gets us pretty and native(to Element) looking styles and keeps the maintenance burden of supporting more event types in Hydrogen."

For the time-being, the only reliable avenue would be someone else hosting an instance on a sensible domain.
