Tasks disappear immediately after creation in Flatpak version

Lotti tasks are not showing under tasks but are sucessfully being created as JSON objects in the DB. There show up in the log book for a limited amount of time as well. Search does not find them. None are marked as done or something similar. Settings are defaults. I also had issues with Lotti failing to open the keyring which I solve by adding org.freedesktop.secrets to session bus permissions.

@wetdew thanks for reporting it, I tested by doing a fresh install in an Ubuntu VM and I can create tasks without problem and also still find them later, both in the tasks tab and in the journal tab.

Could it be that you had created categories and assigned one to the task but filtered for another?

Meanwhile I will look into the warnings, but none of them seem related to the problem you describe. The keyring thing would only become an issue once setting up synchronization between the desktop and a mobile device. I will also create a Bazzite 43 VM and test it in there.

Ah I just realize that Bazzite 43 is not yet available for Apple Silicon, and I don't have access to an Intel machine today. Instead, I'm currently downloading Fedora 43 in both Desktop and Workstation variants so I can test this on latest Fedora with either Gnome or KDE. Will report back shortly.

Here's some additional background.

The first install I did create categories which when assigned did also cause tasks to disappear and not be able to be found again. I deleted the flatpak user data and reinstalled the app. The second time I had no categories instead only creating tasks. In both cases the tasks disappeared after leaving the task menu which I did after creating the tasks. I tried creating many before leaving the menu as well as a single one with the same behavior resulting. All the tasks disappeared after leaving the tasks menu and did not return. When I go into the log book section I can see all the work I did and am able to access the tasks from there for a short period of time before they also disappear from there and im no longer able to access anything from the GUI. I also played around with the filter on both installs. All combinations including the all filter and enabling each filter individually/all at once did not return anything at all.

I am using a standard user account to to further testing. The flatpak is installed as a system flatpak and the admin account, the one which authorized the download is having troubles. So far the tasks do not disappear right away on the standard user account. Let me know if you would like some specific logs.

Also any fedora atomic version would be closer to Bazzite than the workstation or server versions. I believe Fedora Kinoite would be your best shot if Bazzite itself is not available https://fedoraproject.org/atomic-desktops/kinoite/download.

@wetdew that is very weird. I meanwhile set up Fedora 43 desktop and could not reproduce it there either. I did however install the app for the individual user, not system-wide. Let me check if it works as a system flatpak. I'll also try again with the kinoite version from your link.

Here's a demo of the latest onboarding on Linux, also explaining the categories a bit. Hadn't seen your response before recording this though, sounds like you did everything correctly with the categories filtering.

System or User does not seem to make a difference, also working fine for me on Fedora 43 Desktop with KDE. I'll still try the https://fedoraproject.org/atomic-desktops/kinoite/download though.

@wetdew I reverted the change with the keyring in #2592 as that resulted in Flathub flagging Lotti as potentially unsafe. Let's see what that means for saving accounts for Sync, will test that in the next couple of days.

@matthiasn I have continued to test on other accounts. The other user I asked to test Lotti out was unable to reproduce the issue and I was also unable to do so on another standard account. This issue is persisting on the admin account though. This is weird. On the other user all tasks from yesterday are still there, I have full functionality and the progress from the checklists is even showing up as expected. For now Ill just use the standard account for my personal stuff, which is what I should have been doing from the start anyways. Happy to test any potential fixes.

Im not that technically skilled and still found it rather easy to fix the keyring issue through flatseal. If it was documented I would think it wouldn't be poor UX.

It could be a Bazzite only issue. Ill spin up a Bazzite VM on a server and see if I am able to reproduce the issue there. Will report back tomorrow
