Not sure I follow what you're getting at here? We don't default to system libs because otherwise cross-platform compatibility is basically impossible

Nah, i just add option to build with system libs, variables like USE_SYSTEM_ULOG_CPP, setting them on during build allows using system libs instead of CPM's, only for ones who wants to build it with system libs or for building to other distros.

In my mind, not only Alt, but other distros would build QGC for their repos, but it could be hard for them if they build without internet access, that's why i add build options for system libs build. If you are interested i'll update my patches to use with latest version and open PR.

There are all sorts of stuff which comes across the internet: SDL, Mavlink, zlib. You cannot do your first clean build of QGC without internet. If you set up your CPM source cache to be kept around you can build subsequent builds without internet.
