What's the correct way for Item Control & 'Add new Item' button customization?

Hi

I'm trying to customize "item controls (add, remove, move) , as also the "add new" item button,
while in mavo's edit mode only

I've done this codepen, but have an issue where item bar is displayed even in read mode (when page is first time loaded)

What's the correct way to customize them?
Are there any examples or codepens about it?
