api config file create query

Hi,

Can someone perhaps explain to me what creates the config file in the api folder?

i have tried "touch config" and then the error goes away but it doesn't display data

The rewrite module is enabled

sudo a2enmod rewrite
Module rewrite already enabled

so I am wondering what process creates the config file.

Or

Is there any default config file I can create to check if it is working.

Hi @KverGitHub ,

Have a look at Config.php. The config file itself is settings.php referenced in the README. Follow the install instructions, no idea why you ever ended in the api folder for the config.

So for some reason my installation appears to be looking for a config file in the api directory and getting a 404 every time. Some previous queries related this error suggests that a file is supposed to be created there once the start up process is completed and is created by the rewrite module in apache but mine is not doing that and hence then throwing up that error fore reference is the comment i referring to is below

This is the line from my access log file in apache.

Which Linux distribution are you using ? If I find some spare time I can try to install it again from the current repo status and see if I encounter the same issue you do. In the end you should end up having
"GET /nfsen-ng/api/config HTTP/1.1" 200 587 "https://yourhost.yourdomain/nfsen-ng/frontend/" .

In the meantime, you can post the output of below commands (assuming Ubuntu install with /var/www as a web root):

• ls -la /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/
• ls -la /var/www
• ls -la /var/www/nfsen-ng/backend/settings/

OS: Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS
Apache Version: Apache/2.4.64 (Ubuntu)
PHP version: PHP 8.4.10

ls -la /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/

ls -la /var/www (this is /var/www/html in my install )

ls -la /var/www/html/nfsen-ng/backend/settings/

I've gotten it most of the way there I am pretty sure if i can just figure out this api config file issue it may be the last hurdle.

That looks good so far, can you also post the content of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf ? I am setting up a new VM and will try to install it from scratch

Failed attempt on Ubuntu 22.04, I'm trying with Debian 12 instead to see if that works as an alternative. I'll have a look with @mbolli to see how to proceed on fixing it. Keep you posted

Out of curiosity did it give you the same error it gave me? or something different.

It failed earlier than that during the install phase. I updated the install notes for Debian (12). Would that be an alternative for you in the meantime to use Debian instead while we fix the install instructions for Ubuntu ?

Unfortunately Debian (12) is not going to be an option for me i do need it to work on Ubuntu since I run everything else on Ubuntu. Again out of Curiosity what fixed it on debian?

Nothing special, the 2 are unrelated in terms of what the issue could be. You can see the diff for more details but they did not produce the same kind of errors

It works on Ubuntu 24.04. I suggest you try that version instead of 22.04. We will likely have a look at 22.04, but don't know when since lacking time

Ok thanks for the help I will see what I can do in terms of Ubuntu 24.04. I will check back periodically to see if there is any further developments and if i get it working I will post how I got it to work,

This is the http request for the /api/config endpoint. When that results in a 404, probably the mod_rewrite is not enabled or working. Do you have a .htaccess file in the nfsen-ng root?
