sphinx-tags does not work with sphinx-autodoc

I would like to use the sphinx-tags extension to improve the quality of a test-suite documentation. The suite is documented using sphinx autodoc, where the docstring of the test functions is expanded at build time, and is not available in the rst file. at build time.

I am able to insert the tags directive in a docstring, which produces a link in the final html, but the "Pages with this tag" rst file was never created, and therefore the link is dead.

Do you think this is this a general use-case or should I not get my hopes up for such a development?
