[SUGGESTION] Toggles to the Left instead of to the right

I'd like to see the option to move the toggles to the LEFT of the list of panels instead of to the right.

With no row highlighting on hover, when you get into a good chunk of options to toggle, it's "difficult" for the user to ensure they're checking the right option. It's "OK" if the window is sized to be thing across the screen, but in full screen on a 4k monitor, the users eye has to follow a very long empty row to ensure they're hitting the right button.

With moving the check to the left of the topic to be changed, it'd be much more easier and add more accuracy to what needs to be toggled.

Current behavior

All the on/off buttons are on the right of the screen (US/Can left-to-right regional setup -- May be different for right-to-left reading? {shrugs}).

Proposed behavior

Have an option to set the position of those check boxes.

Benefit

Accuracy and not spending time trying to follow a long row of empty space to ensure the user is hitting the right check box.

How disastrous would it be to hit a toggle to allow AI to run rampant on your machine when you wanted to turn on dark mode? ;)

I thought the exact same thing to myself while using the application. I hope this enhancement gets considered and implemented. I would consider it a definite improvement.

Hey there, thanks for the suggestion.

I'm following the same UI design patterns that Windows itself has as can be seen in the screenshot below:

However, I can sympathize with the issue of the setting cards being too long on a higher resolution, like 4k as you mentioned. The settings cards in Windows are centered on the screen, and although I don't think I will center it or move it to the left like you requested, I think I will enlarge the size of the card that is hovered over (like you mentioned "row highlighting on hover") and that it will be a major improvement compared to what we currently have.

I'm sorry, but I don't think moving it all the way to the left of the setting card is the correct choice.

No one said that MSoft is the best at UI design. Take Win11 task bar, desktop properties, and destroying the control panel for instance. ;)

I'd still prefer at least a row highlight happen. Even if it's just a certain percentage lighter or darker, depending on dark vs eye-searing mode.err... light mode. Just something to assist the eye to getting where it needs to be without having to do a full left-to-right scan across a vast empty space.

The other problem that's come up over the decades is that as monitor pixel counts have gone up, so has the size of the content on the screen which negates having a large screen. When we went from 640x480 to 800x600 back in the day, that felt like a MASSIVE improvement. We could put more content on the screen and be able to visually see more information as we used the machines. Then 1024x768 was another big jump, then 1920x1080 when we started getting into 16:9 monitors, and now we're at 2560x1440 and larger. But with those pixels getting smaller, we're also making the content in our forms larger so we can SEE what's on these resolutions. (I personally find it really irritating on my 2K monitor when I go to a website and 3/4 of the page is blank because they went with a 800 pixel wide column -- I don't mind NEWSPAPER formatting)

I don't think making those boxes larger is going to help much. It's also going to mean that the user is going to have to scroll through more pages of content.

You may also be able to instead of going full form width, go down the "column" route. Let the user specify two or three column mode to move the buttons closer to the content that's being offered to change, but, condense the information allowing the same content, but removing the white space.

I added a indicator line to the left of the settingcard at the icon and description to clearly indicate which setting is being hover on and will be changed or toggled.

This might be something that I consider in a future update, but for now I just added an indicator line on the left of the settings card as stated in my previous reply. I consider this to be an upgrade because the eye will have to be on the left to read the setting label and description and if the mouse is hovered on the right (over the control) a quick glance at to the left will indicate exactly which setting will be toggled.

With that said, I'm going to be refactoring the entire front end to Avalonia as discussed in #213 and once that is done or even in the refactoring process, I will consider some more improvements to the layout, to make it better for users on larger displays.

There are a few places. Not the fancy switch thing that you've got going on, but, absolutely places where a checkbox is used to select things.

I don't have access on this machine (Employer machine) but going into the network properties dialogue, you toggle the network functionality (Turn off IPv6 for example).
