Different selection behavior of word/symbol motions between master and 1.5.0 versions

Is it intended or it is a bug? Word/symbol motions in the master version also capture whitespaces and non-alphabetic chars like - and <. This does not happen in the 1.5.0 version.

Here is an example using emacs -Q 29.4 with the default qwerty config of the corresponding version:

master (a7edff2):

1.5.0:

[marasenna]
