Motivation
Starrate is a very useful tool for rating photos via share links (e.g., in collaboration with clients). However, it currently lacks efficient ways to structure and export ratings for downstream workflows (e.g., Adobe Lightroom).
The following enhancements would significantly improve usability, especially in professional photography workflows.
Feature 1: List View of Rated Photos
Description
In addition to the current rating interface, provide a list view of all rated photos.
Requirements
- Display all rated photos in a tabular/list format
- Include file name (derived from the share link)
- Include assigned rating (e.g., stars)
- Sortable columns (e.g., by rating, file name)
- Optional filtering (e.g., only ≥ 4 stars)
Benefits
- Quick overview of selections
- Easy identification of top-rated images
- Foundation for export functionality
Feature 2: Commenting on Photos (via Share Links)
Description
Allow users to add comments per photo, in addition to star ratings.
Requirements
- Input field for comments per image
- Comments are stored alongside ratings
- Comments are visible to the share link owner
- Optional: support for single or multiple comments per image
Benefits
- More precise feedback (e.g., “retouch”, “favorite”, “out of focus”)
- Reduces communication overhead outside the tool (email, calls, etc.)
Feature 3: CSV Export / Clipboard Export
Description
Enable structured export of rating results.
Requirements
- Export data as CSV file, or
- Provide button: “Copy to clipboard”
- Format (comma-separated):
filename, rating, comment
- Encoding compatible with common tools (e.g., UTF-8)
- Optional: filtered export (e.g., only selected photos)
Benefits
- Direct integration with tools like:
- Adobe Lightroom
- Capture One
- Excel / Google Sheets
- Enables automated workflows (e.g., mapping via file names)
Example Output (CSV)
MG_1234.jpg,5,Favorite
IMG_1235.jpg,3,Out of focus
IMG_1236.jpg,4,Great colors
Additional Context
In professional environments (e.g., wedding photography, event shoots, client galleries), the combination of:
- rating
- commenting
- structured export
is essential for an efficient selection and editing workflow.
These features would significantly enhance Starrate’s usability in real-world production scenarios.
