Trying to switch to clang/lld via native file, but: "Unable to detect linker for compiler clang -Wl,--version -fuse-ld=lld"?

Here's my meson_native.ini:

[binaries]
c = 'clang'
cpp = 'clang'
c_ld = 'lld'
cpp_ld = 'lld'

And when I run meson setup --native-file meson_native.ini .build/debug this error pops up among the output lines:

meson.build:1:0: ERROR: Unable to detect linker for compiler `clang -Wl,--version -fuse-ld=lld`

stderr: clang: error: invalid linker name in argument '-fuse-ld=lld'

Later outputs include these lines:

My meson --version is 1.6.1.

Have I made a mistake in my .ini above?

The command clang -Wl,--version -fuse-ld=lld works on my machine. I think that error message means that clang could not find lld installed.

Funnily enough that's been exactly the issue. This being a newly set-up machine, and me being used to all dev stuff being already installed on my systems, it didn't even occur to me that it could be missing 😁
