Perhaps DavMail could have an startup-option to filter out unallowed characters from VEVENT-corpus:
a) for filtering "incomming" calender-events or inventations
b) for filtering "outgoing" calendar-events or inventations.

I know that a collegue created an event in an shared calendar : But in the OWA view the event did not show up in the original calendar, and gave a 503 while opening the entry in my calendar via browser.

Well, and TB via DavMail recieved also a 503, and DavMail fires.

I have an idea ...
How does DavMail react, if an calendar is some how protected against changes from users to which the calendar is shared to?

But the calendar could not be write protected for my account in general, since I could create events in other month, which were shown in OWA and Thunderbird.

TB recieved the 503 from server while performing a playback operation. And than DavMail fired a stacktrace.

I now think:
Davmail repairs the broken Exchange event while transfering it to TB. Event is visible TB calendar.
I think TB sends back the repaired entry: and now the server replies with 503.

What do you think about this?
Let us assume, that the above shown VCALENDAR-structur is syntactical correct, and all unallowed characters had been filtered out.
If the server answers with 503 in cases where calendar items should been updated, than DavMail could create a new calendar item, having the same content and than delete the original.
But if doing so, what effect could this have for (former) invited persons?

Concrete I searched for (currently) open issues containing createOrUpdateItem,

The search result is

From my understanding those issue reports describe other failure situations,
even if some parts of the stacktrace are the same as in my current situation.
