Set PORT_DEBUG from vcpkg install

Is it possible to set PORT_DEBUG from vcpkg install somehow, without modifying any cmake files manually?

Needed it to see logs from debug_message:

vcpkg/scripts/ports.cmake

Found an issue with a suggestion to set it in cmake files with set(PORT_DEBUG ON) (#12694), but wanted to clarify whether it's possible to do it without modifying any files.

Apparently there's undocumented --cmake-args (former --x-cmake-args) command line option:

vcpkg install --cmake-args=-DPORT_DEBUG=ON

Also note that vcpkg supports cmake debugging.

That does sound very interesting. Can you please share any more details on how I can setup debugging with --debugger --debugger-pipe? AFAIK VS Code cmake extension / Visual Studio are using those commands interanlly, but they're running cmake directly... So not sure how how can I setup a pipe first and then connect it. Or if it's possible to do it somehow just from the terminal, without VS/VS Code.
