Instructions

The extension can be obtained by one of the methods below:

• Install the "C/C++" or "C/C++ Extension Pack" extension published by Microsoft from the Extensions view in VS Code.
• Download a vsix that matches your OS from the Assets section below (and install it via the method mentioned above). The previous download methods have the vsix signatures verified by the Marketplace, but for this method, you can do the verification by downloading the matching manifest and signature.p7s file and running npx @vscode/vsce@latest verify-signature -i <.vsix> -m <.signature.manifest> -s <.signature.p7s> vscode-vsce#1044.

Requirements

• VS Code 1.67.0 or later (April 2022).
• Windows 7+ (x64, arm64), macOS 10.12+, Linux (Ubuntu 16+, etc.).

@joguy56 Are you able to share what Linux OS and VS Code version you're using? From what I can tell, GLIBC_3.4.20 is available on all the Linux distros that VS Code 1.67.0 or later runs on.

@joguy56 Also, what version were you previously using (and/or is working for you)? It looks to me like the previous 1.22.11 version should be the same as the 1.23.5 (unless I'm not looking at the right component).

I have the same problem with Centos7, after this update it stopped working for this exact same reason.

Okay, I see now. CentOS 7 ships with GCC 4.8.5 and GLIBCXX_3.4.20 is available with GCC 4.9. We're tracking this with #13219

Posting the same thing here that I posted in #13219:

We've talked to the debugger team and we're not certain that we'll be getting a version of the debugger that will work with these OS versions. We were unaware of the switch, but the debugger was updated to use .NET 8 because .NET 6 passed its end of life so we can't release it in our extension anymore. Unfortunately, as part of this update, a higher GLIBC dependency was taken and these OS versions don't support that. Given that CentOS 7 and RHEL 7 are both past the end of their support cycles, right now it looks like it will be unlikely that future versions of the C++ extension will have a working debugger bundled on those OS'es.

I know that this is not what you were hoping to hear, but until we know for sure, you'll need to stay on 1.22.11 if you want a working debugger or start thinking about updating your OS to a newer version (at least 9).

Is there a way to put the Debugger thats needed in the OS, or it does not have the libs that it depends on.... This is frustrating...
