Diff working after first commit

In my VS Code on Windows (in WSL) the "nice" diff (not only text based, but cell based) stops working after I make the first commit.

What works is:

1. Open VS Code WSL folder
2. Make a edit
3. Show the diff
4. Commit

When I then make a second edit:

1. Make edit
2. Show the diff <-- this diff will include changes that are already commited

If I close VS Code completely it starts working again, also if I switch to text only diffing then it shows the correct diff.

Just now I tried to take a screenshot of showing the 2 diff methods side by side, but that seems to have triggered some kind of refresh on the broken diff :-/
