Variables pane change positioning problem

I've been searching all over for an explanation on how to change the 'variables' pane position within VSCode and nowhere I can find an answer.

The default position of the 'variables' pane is at the bottom like so:

I keep seeing these examples, where the 'variables' pane is within the interactive pane like so:

But I cannot figure out how to move it from the bottom to within (on top) the interactive pane.
Could someone please assist.

P.S. My ultimate goal is to set it up like I am used to with Spyder...
