VSC keeps executing cell

Every once in a while when using pandas with VSC+Jupyter_Python exts, thing get messy and VSC+Jupyter "freeze": a cell keeps executing and nothing happens either "interrupting" execution or "restarting" kernels.

If I try and close VSC I get this message "Backing up editors with unsaved changes is taking a bit longer "

It does not occur very often, but not as seldom as not to be annoying.

What should I do in this case?

I could not find discussions speaking about this but may be I used the wrong keyworkds.
