What is the added value of the Jupyter Extension?

Visual Studio Code supports Jupyter Notebook directly without extensions:

I know that I have to install the Python extension in order to run Python code at all.

My question though is that I don't know what added value the Jupyter extension brings?
Especially when Jupyter notebooks are supported directly, without extensions.
