Laptop crashes and restart after executing code

Dear Vs Code Team,

I have an issue in running a simple code with a dataset containing only 5 entries on a Jupyter Notebook. The execution of these lines in particular

'PandasTools.AddMoleculeColumnToFrame(mols_df,'SMILES')
mols_df.head(2)' 

consumes a lot RAM memory till it crashes and the laptop restarts showing me that "the device has ran into a problem". I tried executing the same code and using the same dataset on other PC with even lower specs, it works fine. Furthermore, I have installed the latest system drivers as well as installing and uninstalling VS code but the same issue persists. Also, I checked this issue with the manufacturing company of my laptop, they advised that there is no problem with my laptop and advised the problem should be in VS code itself.

You can try deleting the

C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Code

folder.
Also:

Make sure to check that it works without vscode on that laptop, and try turning off extensions, all that. This sounds like a system issue to me, make sure to list the info of the computer that it does work on.

@Coolchickenguy Thank you for your reply. The code works on Google colab and on other devices with lower specs. I have deleted the Appdata but the issue persists. I only have the essential extensions for running jupyter notebook on vs code.

Okay, then that could definitely be a platform-specific as Google Colab does run linux, not windows, without running vscode's wrappers I assume. That is a relatively well-supported windows version you report using, so it should work, but then again vscode can add a large amount of wrappers, so this could definitely be a bug in vscode. You might also want to attach a minimal dataset that causes this too for repeatability purposes, and try disabling shell integration (a long shot but might work)

Please confirm this works on vscode in other computers.
If thats the case, what are the details of the other machines are they windows/mac (arm/intel) etc?

What are the environment details?

• Version of Python
• Type of python environment used (venv, conda, etc)
• Versions of the packages installed (please share the versions of packages to install & latest against)

Can you also share the sample *.smi file.

Can you run the following code in the same Jupyter notebook

print(sys.executable)

Next save the code in jupyter ntoebook into a Python file and run that file using the above python environment as follows <fully qualified path to python executable> <path to python file>.py
