• GitHub Copilot integration (Preview): AI-assisted coding inside the MSSQL extension

With the retirement of ADS we will lose the sql migration extension. Is it possible to incorporate it in the MSSQL extension?

Thanks for your patience with the delayed response!

The SQL Migration extension is owned and maintained by a different team and is not part of the MSSQL extension for VS Code. With the ADS retirement, questions about the future, support, or potential integration of the SQL Migration extension are best addressed by the owners of that experience.

I recommend looping in @abhims14 and @SudhirRaparla, who are the PMs for the SQL Migration extension and can help answer questions around roadmap, plans, and supported tooling going forward.

We are building the replacement for SQL Migration extension in SSMS with the intent of making it more accessible than before as SSMS is used more prevalently with SQL Servers. What do you think about this approach? can you please share your feedback?

SSMS is definitely the premier interface for working with SQL Server. However, for me, the biggest advantage of having as many workable features , previously in Azure Data Studio - which had nearly everything I needed for day-to-day, and now Visual Studio Code is there are times I'm working completely in a Linux environment , with SQL Servers running on Linux.

ADS and VS Code allows me to complete most tasks without needing a Windows machine available for SSMS.

Of course, if there was ever an SSMS linux-distribution that would be the ultimate. Until then I'll happily take any features we can add into VS Code.

Hi SudhirRaparla, Building it inside SSMS seems a great idea. I use SSMS far more than Data Studio. If the process of doing the migration is as easy and as efficient than the current extension Data Studio this will very great news indeed.
