Debug session exited slowly after stopping #627

@EvATive7

Description

@EvATive7

Behavior

After clicking the stop button and the process exited, the debug session took a long time to end. The debugging control panel remained visible for an extended period before disappearing, and the VSCode status bar took a long time to change color to black. This issue only occurred with the Python debugger, and other languages did not exhibit this behavior. Even after uninstalling other extensions and cleaning the user settings, the problem persisted.

Reproduction

The issue continued until I rebooted my computer, after which it was fixed. This behavior is confusing, and I am opening this issue to ask if anyone else has encountered the same problem. I don't believe my software or environment settings are influencing the code or the Python debugger. The only possible explanation I can think of is that my computer had been running and logged in for an extended period without a shutdown. But how could this cause the issue? I'm puzzled and would appreciate it if someone who has experienced this problem could respond.

Environment info

  • Windows 11 23H2 22631.4890
  • Code 1.97.2
  • Python Debugger 2025.0.1
  • Python 3.11.9 64bit (Actually this problem happens for all python versions)
