Allow customizing python version selection for conda

Conda can install any version of python by downloading the package for it. This really depends on what users have defined in environment.yml. We picked the versions of python that are under active support when we added this feature, we also made 3.10 default, as at the time, data-science packages were missing for all platforms for newer versions. We do have plans to dynamically update this list, but had not been asked by users yet.

I understand what you mean. What I'm saying is, why not transfer this configuration to the user settings so that we can freely set it?

We are going to give the community 60 days from when this issue was created to provide 7 👍 upvotes on the opening comment to gauge general interest in this idea. If there's enough upvotes then we will consider this feature request in our future planning. If there's unfortunately not enough upvotes then we will close this issue.

For this feature I would avoid adding a new setting. Instead, we can enable user input to allow any version of python to be entered via the UI. This way we can surface the version in environments.yml if it exists, and that file will remain as a way to save version of python for the project in an IDE independent way.
