Comments in yq queries

I've been using yq for a while, but haven't ever written a query more than a couple of lines long. Now I am working on something that requires a more complex query, and I want to have something like code comments in my query so I can remember what's what.

So far I've been assigning strings to $_ like below. Is there better syntax for this?

doc="$( yq '
    "

Add values from environment

    "  as $_ |
    .foo = strenv(foo) |
    "

Do some other stuff

    "  as $_ |
    ...
' <<<"$doc" )"
