how to set yq exit status

I want to modify volumeTemplate storage value

The code above could match the storage that deleted a particular list, but I want to return an error if the match fails.

In the official documentation, the -e flag seems to work, but when I use it, $?
Has been 0, and did not achieve the expected match failure return

yes, the following flags are set

set -o errexit
set -o pipefail
set -o nounset

I tried it, and it seems env caused it

s="$storage" ./bin/yq e '.spec.apple = env(s)' -e examples/data1.yaml
echo $?

stdout : 
0

# example2
s="$storage" ./bin/yq e '.spec.apple' -e examples/data1.yaml
echo $?

stdout : 
null
Error: no matches found

Ah it's not the env, is the fact that you are using =, which will automatically create the path on the fly/

You can do the following:

 ./bin/yq e -e 'select(.spec.apple != null) | .spec.apple = env(s)' -e examples/data1.yaml

When .spec.apple don't exist, the select will pass an empty match to = and it will fail as expected.
