Java Edition 1.4.6, 1.11.1, and 1.16.2 should be highlighted in timeline like drops

1.4.6 added fireworks, enchanted books, and the thorns enchantment.

1.11.1 added firework boosting to elytras, iron nuggets, smelting metal tools for nuggets, and the sweeping edge enchantment.

1.16.2 added piglin brutes and custom biome support.

If these were released today, I think most if not all of them would've been called drops.

Yeah, I thought about this for a while too. Mojang wasn't too consistent with their versioning in the past, so there have been a few minor updates with major content, which are exceptions to the rule of minor updates being just small changes and fixes.

I don't think there is a clean solution to this. 1.11.1 already has an icon, however it only appears if you enable minor updates. For now, I can do the same to 1.4.6 and 1.16.2. But perhaps it warrants a better solution, since I'd like those to be visible by default.

I don't want to simply change their labels to "drops"... that's a new and official concept, and calling these old versions drops would confuse or mislead new users. Also, they're definitely not major updates.

I could just shoehorn a new "minor update with content" category, I guess. Or split "minor updates" into "minor content updates" and "minor patches". What do you think? @ZebulanStanphill

Having minor content updates and minor patches be separate categories from each other (and separate from drops) sounds good to me. Technically, we even still get updates in the former category (1.21.7 adding two things and yet not being marketed as a drop).
